OLA President Meets ADG Assam Rifles; Key Alumni Initiatives Receive Approval

The President of the Old Laitkorian Association (OLA) recently undertook an important visit to Shillong from 27 February to 2 March 2026, where he met with Major General Jai Singh at Happy Valley and also interacted with the Principal and Bursar of Assam Rifles Public School Laitkor.

During the meeting with the ADG, the President presented a five-point agenda aimed at strengthening engagement between the alumni body and the school while contributing meaningfully to the institution’s long-term growth and welfare. In a positive development for the alumni community, four out of the five proposals received approval from the ADG.

The remaining proposal could not be approved at present due to the financial constraints currently faced by the school. Much of the available funding from Assam Rifles is presently directed toward ensuring the continued functioning of the institution.

Copies of the agenda points were also submitted to the Principal and the Bursar for their records, clearly indicating that the proposals had received approval from the ADG.

An official approval letter from the ADG is expected shortly, which will formally record the decisions taken during the meeting.

Beyond the agenda itself, the discussions opened up encouraging possibilities for a stronger and more structured role for the alumni community. The ADG and the Directorate shared several ideas that could help the alumni contribute to restoring and strengthening the legacy and reputation of the school. OLA is expected to add its own perspectives to these suggestions.

It is likely that towards the end of April or early May, a delegation of alumni will visit the Directorate General of Assam Rifles to further discuss and refine these ideas. The aim is to develop a framework that could eventually become part of the policy and governing systems of the school.

During the same trip, the President also held chapter meetings in Shillong and Guwahati with alumni members from the Meghalaya and Assam chapters. At these gatherings, he shared the vision and action plan of OLA, encouraging members to expand outreach, bring more alumni into the fold, and initiate membership registrations.

The visit was made possible with the strong support of several alumni members. Special appreciation was extended to Fakhrul, Mushtaque, and Manas, who assisted with logistics, coordination, and hospitality throughout the visit. Their efforts, along with the enthusiastic participation of other alumni from the Meghalaya and Assam chapters, added strength and momentum to the mission of revitalizing alumni engagement and contributing meaningfully to the future of the school.

The visit marks another step toward deeper collaboration between the alumni community and the institution, with the shared goal of preserving and enhancing the legacy of Assam Rifles Public School Laitkor for generations to come.
